How to deal with negative thinking?

It is difficult to try and think positively when you are thinking negatively and frustrated and feeling sad. We spend a lot of time in our minds, and we worry about the future or worry about how the situation would have gone better. Sometimes these negative thoughts stop us from enjoying our life. 

Strong negative thinking sometimes can have a big impact on our life from our relationships with the people around us to our mental health. There are many things that could happen when you are continuously live in a cycle of negative thinking. 

Oftentimes people try to get rid of the negative thoughts and think that they can eliminate those negative thoughts in order to be happy and fulfilled. This is an ineffective way and unrealistic. If you are struggling with negative thinking, I can assure you that you will not be able to change the situation however you can only change the way you look at the situation.

I believe that it is good to live life balance. You cannot eliminate negative thoughts completely however you can deal with them so you would feel better and shift the negativity. So, whenever you feel down or having those negative thoughts you can do any of the strategies that I am going to share in a moment which will help you to redirect your mind and reprogram your mind to feel good again. Remember you want to balance between the negative thoughts and the positive thoughts. I believe life is balance if you are continuously thinking positive all the time it is going to be boring and it is not good. Life is just up and down you just gonna have to find that sweet spot that is in the middle and you are balanced. 

Without further ado, let’s go and discuss my five top strategies to deal with negative thoughts

1-         Focus on how you feel now 

When you have negative thoughts try and stop for a moment. Then, analyze what you are feeling at that moment not what you are thinking. Remember thinking can trick us to make us feel sad or happy. Those feelings are not the actual feeling that we feel at the moment. Those feeling are stimulated based on our thinking. I want to do is try and figure out what you are feeling without those negative thoughts. When you do that, it will help you realize that those negative thoughts are not real, and it is just stimulation from our mind and our mind playing games on us in order for it to protect itself or because we are conditioned it to think negatively, and it is just a way of response to continuing the cycle. The best way is just to focus on the now and on what do you feel not what you are thinking. 

2-         Do something nice 

One of the things you can do when you have negative thoughts is doing something that you enjoy and that makes you feel good. This could be writing, going out, or even taking a bath. It has to be something that you enjoy and loves doing. Also, you can do something nice to someone else and helping people is a great idea too. When you do something nice and meaningful will help you by distracting your mind from thinking negatively. 

3-         Remember good things that you have done that day 

You can also remember events that made you feel great to make you feel positive again. You can ask yourself what you have done well that day. These will you boost your self-esteem and make you a little bit more positive. 

4-         Write down your thoughts. 

One of the things that are therapeutic in my opinion is by writing down your thoughts. When you write you will be able to monitor those thoughts and analyze them. It will give you insights into your thoughts and mind. 

5-         Surround yourself with positive people 

One of the things that will always keep positive energy in your life is by having people who are positive around you. Positive friendships provide you with guidance and support and will lift you up when you are feeling down. Pay attention to the people around you and how they make you feel. Start by putting your energy and positive people around first. Don’t allow energy drainers to be in your life and you can still be in touch however limit your contact and be direct with them. Don’t waste any time with energy drainers because they are just like narcissists and I am sure they are not all bad. their mentality and way of thinking are just to drain your energy so they can lift themselves up. Be aware of those types of people and only keep good positive people around you because those people will stay with you and will support you during hardships or not so make sure you choose your friends wisely and keep positive friendships in your life and nurture them.
